Coalition History

The seeds of this partnership began in 2010, initiated by Perla Castro, a daughter of a 59-year-old Latina diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). After three years of looking for resources in Spanish for her mother, Ms. Castro approached and organized a meeting of AD stakeholders and organizations to discuss the needs of the local Latino community.

The meeting resulted in the development of a Coalition to collaborate and work towards addressing the needs of Latino caregivers caring for family members with dementia. Currently, statistics show that AD affects the Latino community in relatively higher numbers than the general population, and the importance of this group persists.
